Chiropractic Care Helps Digestion

Our Chiropractor in Irvine Discusses How Chiropractic Care Helps Digestion

Some people seek out chiropractic care to help their digestive problems.   Logically, many think chiropractors only treat neck and back pain.  So how can us “back doctors” help with digestion?  Like all the body's systems (respiratory, circulatory, reproductive, digestive, and others), the digestive system is made up of several organs that work together to break down food so the body can absorb the nutrients from that food, and remove from the body whatever the body can't digest or doesn't need.  All the digestive organs (mouth, stomach, gallbladder, liver, pancreas and intestines) are controlled by the brain through the nerves that pass through the spinal column, just like every other organ in the body. If any of those nerves are pinched or irritated due to a vertebral subluxation (spinal misalignment), the signals between the brain and organ will be disrupted. This can cause problems like heartburn/gastritis, abdominal gas/bloating, and constipation or diarrhea.

A medical doctor would treat these problems by prescribing a drug, but most drugs don’t get rid of the cause of the problem- they only cover up the symptoms.  Our Irvine Chiropractor examines the spine to see if there are any irritations to the nerves that go to the digestive organs.  They also help the patient determine if there are other factors that could be causing the problem, such as drinking to much alcohol, an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise or dehydration. Instead of using drugs to cover up the symptoms, chiropractors find the root cause of the problem and direct treatment to solve it. When a spinal misalignment may be the cause of the problem, chiropractic adjustments may be the solution. Regular adjustments are necessary for keeping all the body's systems working the way they were designed to.   So if you or someone you know suffers from digestive problems that haven’t gone away without medication, have them contact Dr. Martin, our chiropractor in Irvine.

We look forward to hearing from you
